"The Streak" vs "The Mystique"

A showdown in "Beantown".

Miami vs Boston, seriously, does it get any better than this?

You want to know how intense this rivalry is? The cheapest pair of tickets for tonight's game between the Heat and the Celtics according to Stubhub are $115.00 each.

In Boston, this has the feeling of the Yankees vs Red Sox on a cool October evening in Fenway Park.

You would be hard pressed to find a team that gives the Heat more fits than the Celtics. Boston has won ten straight regular season home games against the Heat.

I can compare this rivalry to Notre Dame vs Miami, aka "Catholics vs Convicts" of the late 1980's.

The Miami Heat like the 80's Hurricanes are filled with speed, flash, and an abundance of talent with an unbeaten streak that is a telling example of how good this team is.

And then you have the Celtics. Like their Irish brethren Notre Dame they play the role of the team known for its rich past, looking to once again return to its former glory. They may not make the SportsCenter top ten, but they play team basketball and work as a unit to win their games.

It can also relate to the Notre Dame/Miami rivalry in terms of the cultures of the cities they represent. Miami is known for warm weather, bright lights, status, and a flair for style. Boston on the other hand is the rugged, blue-collar, nose to the grindstone town that expect the same traits in their teams.

But when you get down to brass tax between these two, this has been a vendetta that has been escalating since Lebron James joined Miami in 2010.

Here are two statistics to keep in mind before tipoff.

Miami's Dwayne Wade’s 21.3 scoring average and 43% shooting vs. Celtics are the lowest against any opponent in his career.

Boston's Avery Bradley, Paul Pierce, and Jeff Green are all ranked in the top ten for on-ball defending this season with Bradley being first, Green seventh, and Pierce ninth.

According to the Boston Celtics Twitter feed, Kevin Garnett will not play tonight due to illness and not because of his injured left thigh. With Jeff Green likely to replace Garnett in the starting lineup, it gives Boston some added speed but Garnett's leadership and fire on the court will be sorely missed.

So tonight, Miami's 22-game winning streak and Boston's 11-game home winning streak are both on the line. It's "King" James vs "The Truth", it's South Beach vs Beantown, it's Miami vs Boston.

As in the words of Terrell Owens "Get your popcorn ready".
