Notre Dame vs Boston College Preview


 The Holy War. A fitting name for a rivalry between two of the country’s most prestigious Catholic schools. 


 Come Saturday night at Alumni Stadium at 8PM on ABC, the #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the Boston College Eagles in another clash for the Ireland Trophy.

 The Irish (9-0) going into this game have beaten the Eagles three straight times (ND leads 12-9 all time). Notre Dame comes in 9-0, the most games won without a loss since 1993. 

A very daunting task for the Eagles to try and take down the unbeaten Domers. 

 But the Eagles (2-7) have been in this situation before. Let us take a trip back to November 20th, 1993. The #1 ranked Fighting Irish (10-0), fresh off their victory over then #1 Florida State, were stunned by the Eagles in South Bend 41-39. The game continues to haunt the Irish, who would have easily won the National Championship had they beaten BC. 

 Then in 2002, the Eagles once again dashed Notre Dame's championship hopes when they upset the Irish 14-7. Notre Dame was 7-0 and ranked #4 in the country before their upending by the Eagles. 

 Fast forward to 2012. The Irish are closing in on a dream season. The Eagles, although not as skilled as their #15 ranked 1993 team, would love to send their fellow Catholics home with a loss. 

 Boston College will have to beat the Irish in the air as they are averaging less than 25YPG on the ground this year. 

 Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly will not lobby to the BCS about the Irish’s bowl position. Instead, he is focused on getting his team ready for not only the Eagles, but for Wake Forest and USC as well. 

 For the Eagles, the only thing on the line is the Ireland Trophy. For the Irish, it's only the chance at the National Championship. 

 Can the Irish finally shake off the Boston College jinx? Or will the Eagles once again crush the hopes and dreams that lie in every Irish fan since 1989? 

 For Notre Dame and their fans, this is not just a game. This is the chance for revenge against the team that has been responsible for two dream seasons crushed in defeat.  

This season is not about a championship. It is not just about relevance. It is about getting back the pride and respect that the program has built and cherished for well over a century.

R.I.P MCA/Bisons Game

   Yesterday  of course was a very sad day for not only myself, but for millions of people across the world.     The gravelly-voiced, and beloved hip hop pioneer from Brooklyn, NY has left us. Adam Yauch, aka "MCA" from the legendary hip hop group Beastie Boys, passed away today at the age of 47 after a three year battle with cancer. Yauch along with Michael Diamond (Mike D) formed the Beastie Boys in 1981, playing their first show on Yauch's 17th birthday.     The Beastie Boys were originally a punk band comprised of Yauch, Diamond, Kate Schellenbach, and John Berry. As Berry and Schellenbach left the band, Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) joined up and released their first album Licensed To Ill in 1986. 40 million albums later, the group still continued to tour until Yauch was unable to perform after being diagnosed with cancer in his salivary gland in 2009.     In honor of Yauch, the New York Mets used cuts from the Beastie ...

Recap Of Buffalo State Softball Tournament

Today, my radio station 91.3FM WBNY participated in the annual Buffalo State softball tournament at Bengal Field. Our team name this year was Dump Em' Out, inspired by former play by play for Buffalo State men's hockey Kory Reid (Dump em' out refers to women who, well you get the idea). WBNY's first game concluded in a 14-4 victory over the Bradley Bombers. This is the second victory for the radio station in organization athletics. It was a great experience being able to play with fellow DJ's, and actually win a game! Unfortunately our run came to a rather familiar halt. Losing 15-0 to the Poles & Holes (Really?) But the feeling of winning a game was satisfying enough that it somewhat healed the pain of getting thrashed the way we did.  Among other notes, summer vacation is drawing near and I am on my way to begin interning with WGR Sports Radio 550AM!
