Bills Fans: The Joke's On You

50-17.

Is there really any other way to say it? I repeat, 50-17. No matter how many times I write it, the impact is the same. The Buffalo Bills are the joke of the National Football League. Not the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, or San Diego Chargers, it is the Bills.

The Seattle Seahawks, with their rookie third-round quarterback Russell Wilson, singlehandedly dismantled and ultimately embarrassed the Bills defense like it has never been embarrassed before. And believe me, the 49ers and the first Patriots game were nothing compared to seeing what Seattle did to them in Toronto late Sunday afternoon.

Seattle made Toronto their playground. The Bills made it their cemetery.

The Seahawks on their first two possessions, ran around Rogers Centre like they were the Jamaican relay team and the Bills were nothing but exchange zones between them and the goal-line.

Wilson, who the Bills passed on in the third round for T.J Graham, ran for the first two scores of
15-and-24 yards respectively. Now the maddening thing about those runs was that he was essentially untouched on both scores. He made moves that made Mario Williams check his jockstrap for knots at halftime.

Wilson at the end of the game had four touchdowns total, three rushing and one throwing. His third-round counterpart Graham, dropped four balls in the game.

If you're a Bills fan, you can do the math while you grit your teeth in frustration.

Wilson was once courted by the Bills before the draft, but the brass thought Wilson was undersized and decided to pass on him for Graham.

Even Marshawn had to laugh at how easy
he had it yesterday.

And even former Bill Marshawn Lynch wanted to pour salt into Bills fans' enormous wound. Lynch gained 113 yards on a meager 10 carries. Lynch averaged a first down and then some against his old team without even breaking a sweat.

The Bills were down 31-17 at half after a 41-yard field goal by Rian Lindell at the gun. The momentum was put to a halt after quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick got picked off at the 44-yard-line by linebacker K.J Wright during their first series of the second half.

The Seahawks made short work of their prime real estate at the 20 as Lynch scored on a 14-yard run to the right side to put Seattle up 38-17.

Now the run in particular was a microcosm of the Bills' season. Lynch bounced to the right with safety Da'Norris Searcy in front of him. When Lynch charged to the end-zone, Searcy instead of taking Lynch head-on, decided to belly backwards two yards into the end-zone without even attempting to stop Lynch.

Searcy had no blockers in front of him to prevent the chance of a tackle. He simply let Lynch plow his way in with no conviction of stopping him.

It was an effort that would get most guys cut from teams who want to win. But for the Bills, it has just been status quo. Look somewhat decent against the bottom-feeders, get completely destroyed by competent teams going in the right direction.

Seattle yesterday averaged 8.2 yards-per-rush.

But wait there's more!

In the Bills' nine defeats this year, they have lost by a combined score of 323-175. The opposition in those victories averaged 35.8PPG compared to Buffalo's 19.4PPG. Round those out and the Bills are losing 36-18 each game this year.

The futility of their defense, combined with a quarterback with the inability to throw a deep pass, a superstar running back who is largely ignored, and a head coach who still thinks 50-yard field goals are only makable by aliens, it is the recipe for complete and utter disaster.

Mike Schopp, co-host of "Schopp and the Bulldog" on WGR Sports Radio 550AM made a comment earlier in the week that intrigued me. He referenced that Seattle signed Matt Flynn to a three-year $19.5 million contract, while also drafting Wilson to bolster their quarterback depth chart. Even though Flynn was touted as the starter by many outlets, it was Wilson who became the starter simply because of his raw talent.

Schopp went further and said that the Seahawks did not care about who got the big contract, they wanted to see who would be the best option at quarterback regardless of stature. He said that the Bills would have sat Wilson for the entire year because they would still believe in the notion that rookie quarterbacks should not start for two or three years.

He makes a great point. The Bills are an organization that is stuck in a much older generation with dated philosophies and flawed ways of handling personnel. Running back C.J Spiller has to be the most underused 1,000-yard rusher I have ever seen in my life. With every touch, Spiller has the ability to change a game with one play. There hasn't been a player with that ability on the Bills since Thurman Thomas.

But I simply cannot fathom why Spiller has garnered no love from head coach Chan Gailey. Gailey runs his offense like he has Joe Montana under center. Starting the second half with five-straight pass plays after getting back some momentum seriously questioned my sanity. This offense simply cannot function with Fitzpatrick's pedestrian arm and questionable accuracy past 15 yards.

Spiller had 17 carries for 103 yards, including a tremendous 14-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He is electricity while the team as a whole is a wet match in a dark cave.

Buffalo has Miami and the New York Jets to close out this incredibly disappointing 2012 season. They currently sit 7th overall in the 2013 NFL draft after the Jets' 14-10 loss against Tennessee earlier tonight.

Bills fans want a new head coach, a new quarterback, and a new general manager for Christmas. But knowing this organization and its mind-blowing decision-making, the only gift Bills fans will receive would be the merciful end of this season.

And by the way,  rookie 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick beat the Patriots in New England yesterday. You know who the Bills got instead of him? Cordy Glenn.
